The Pile Dynamic Test (PDA), performed in accordance with ASTM D4945, is a quick and practical way to estimate the load-bearing capability of driven piles.  The test analyzes stress wave propagation through the pile by applying a controlled impact force to it with a drop hammer or equivalent equipment.  This enables engineers to assess shaft resistance, end bearings, and pile stability nearly immediately upon installation.  PDA testing is commonly used for quality control during pile driving, and it is especially useful when quick results are required without the lengthy timescales of static load testing.  It is appropriate for driven concrete, steel, and timber piles.
