Dexlansoprazole
Indication
Healing of all grades of erosive esophagitis (EE) & treatment of heartburn associated w/ non-erosive GERD. Maintain healing of EE & relief of heartburn for up to 6 mth.
Instruction
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole. Alternatively, capsule may be opened & entire contents sprinkled in a tablespoon of applesauce. Swallow immediately without chewing. Cap may also be opened and granules can be administered with water in an oral syringe or via a nasogastric tube (≥ 16 French).
Drug interaction
Decrease systemic conc of atazanavir. May interfere w/ the absorption of other gastric pH-dependent drugs eg ampicillin esters, digoxin, Fe salts, ketoconazole. Increased INR & prothrombin time w/ warfarin. Increase whole blood levels of tacrolimus especially in transplant patients. May elevate & prolong serum levels of methotrexate &/or its metabolite hydroxymethotrexate.
