Punches and Dies: Press brake tooling consists of two main components: punches and dies.
- Punch: The punch is the upper tool that comes down to apply force to the sheet metal, causing it to bend against the die.
- Die: The die is the lower tool that provides the shape and angle for the bend. It supports the sheet metal and controls the bending process.
Types of Press Brake Tooling:
- V-Die and Punch: This is the most common type of tooling. The die is V-shaped, and the punch is designed to fit into the V, allowing for various bend angles by changing the punch and die combination.
- Gooseneck Punch: This punch has a curved shape that allows for deep or offset bends.
- Hemming Tooling: Used for creating hems on sheet metal edges.
- Radius Tooling: Designed for making bends with a specific radius, often used in applications where a smooth curve is required.
