Insertion Loss Measurement for Exhaust Gas Silencer

Exhaust Gas Silencers for Sipitang 52MW Power Plant

The ISTIQ team successfully conducted an Insertion Loss (IL) Measurement on an Exhaust Gas Silencer supplied for Kawan Engineering’s gas engine system. The test was conducted at our factory in Shah Alam and carried out in accordance with ISO 7235:2003, Acoustics - Measurement of Ducted Silencers. The exhaust silencer is meant for the Sipitang 52MW Power Plant.
The objective of this test was straightforward yet crucial: to verify that the silencer performs exactly as designed by measuring the noise reduction it achieves when inserted into the system. Using a B&K omnidirectional dodecahedron sound source, precision microphones, and calibrated sound level meters, our engineers compared baseline measurements (pipe only) with measurements taken after the silencer was installed.

Key Results

  • Baseline (no silencer): 112.8 dBA
  • With silencer installed: 64.0 dBA
  • Achieved insertion loss: 48.8 dB
These results confirm that the silencer meets the project’s stringent noise reduction requirements. The measurement was also witnessed and signed off on by our client representative, giving complete transparency and confidence in the outcome.
At ISTIQ, we have developed the expertise and infrastructure to perform acoustic testing on-site at our factory. This capability not only saves time but also highlights our technical independence and dedication to delivering verifiable results.
By investing in proper test methods and aligning with international standards, we give our clients what matters most: peace of mind that ISTIQ silencers will perform in the field exactly as promised.
