Medium to large. Males typically larger and heavier than females. Solid, muscular, thickbone (“cobby”) body type. Broad chest, strong shoulders. Short, sturdy legs. Rounded paws. |
Head & Face |
Round head, broad cheeks (more pronounced in males), strong chin, short broad nose. Ears are medium in size, rounded tips, set apart. Eyes are large, round, very expressive. |
Coat |
Short, dense, plush, with the feeling of crispness (especially in the "British Blue" kind). The coat is not long or flowing; it doesn’t mat easily. There is some seasonal shedding. |
Colours & Patterns |
Very many. The famous is “British Blue” (solid grey/blue), but also solid (white, black, red, cream, etc.), tabby, bicolor, tortoiseshell, point, shaded, smoke, golden/silver, etc. Eye colour often complements the coat: than copper, gold, sometimes blue or green depending on coat. |
Weight & Lifespan |
Weights vary, but mature males often weigh ~5 8 /kg; females somewhat lighter. Height not huge, but stocky.Lifespan typically in the range 12 20 years with good health and care. |
