Description

QEED Loop-Powered AC/DC Current Transducer

QI-300-I AC/DC Loop-Powered Current Transformer

The QEED QI-300-I is an AC/DC current transformer and transducer for higher-current applications. It is galvanically isolated from the measured circuit and provides a standard 4 20mA loop-powered output for connection to PLC, SCADA, BMS, EMS, data logger and industrial monitoring systems.

The device works similarly to an active current transformer, but can measure both DC current and AC RMS current. As a passive loop-powered transducer, it does not require a separate direct auxiliary power supply.

Measurement AC RMS and DC current
Output 4 20mA loop-powered
Range 150A / 300A selectable
Accuracy 0.5% F.S.

Overview

QI-300-I is suitable for applications where higher AC/DC current values need to be converted into a 4 20mA process signal. It is useful for battery systems, UPS, DC power distribution, motor control, industrial machinery, renewable energy systems and automation panels.

The 4 20mA loop output allows easy connection to standard industrial analogue inputs. This makes the QI-300-I practical for retrofit projects where current measurement needs to be brought into an existing PLC, remote I/O module, SCADA, BMS, EMS or IoT system.

Positioning: High-current AC/DC current transducer with passive 4 20mA loop-powered output for industrial current monitoring.

Key Features

AC/DC Current Measurement

Measures DC current and AC RMS current, unlike standard AC-only current transformers.

Loop-Powered Output

Powered directly from the 4 20mA current loop, reducing wiring and avoiding separate auxiliary power.

Selectable Current Range

300A or 150A scale can be selected by DIP switch according to the measured current level.

Monopolar / Bipolar Mode

Supports RMS monopolar mode or bipolar DC mode for positive and negative current applications.

3kV Isolation

Provides galvanic isolation on bare wire between the primary current path and measurement output.

DIN Rail or Screw Mounting

Can be mounted vertically or horizontally using screw fixing or included DIN rail clips.

Measurement and Output Functions

Function Specification Purpose
Current Measurement AC RMS or DC current measurement Monitor high-current AC/DC circuits in industrial and energy systems
Selectable Range 300 Arms or 150 Arms; bipolar ±300A DC or ±150A DC Match the device to the application current range
Output 4 20mA passive loop-powered output Connection to PLC analogue input, remote I/O, data logger or monitoring system
Mode Selection RMS monopolar or DC bipolar mode Select the correct measurement behaviour for AC or DC systems
Mode note: Select monopolar RMS mode for AC current applications and bipolar mode for DC applications where current direction is important.

Note: The original page showed the dimension as “6.1 x 63 x 26.4 mm”, which appears to be a typographical error. The layout above uses approximately 46.1 x 63 x 26.4 mm, consistent with the related QI current transducer format.

DIP Switch Configuration

QI-300-I includes DIP switch configuration for local setup of current range and measurement mode. This makes the device simple to commission without software.

  • Select 150A or 300A measurement range
  • Select RMS monopolar mode or DC bipolar mode
  • Use the yellow LED to confirm loop power presence
  • Switch off the power supply before changing DIP switch settings
Configuration note: Any DIP-switch change requires the power supply to be switched off first. This prevents unwanted setting changes during operation.

DIN Rail Mounting

The QI-300-I can be installed horizontally or vertically using the supplied DIN rail clips or screw mounting. For DIN rail mounting, the hooks should be fitted according to the intended orientation before clipping the device to the rail.

  • Horizontal mounting using the flexible hook arrangement
  • Vertical mounting by sliding the hooks into the prepared slots
  • Release from DIN rail using a screwdriver to lift the retaining fins
  • Confirm conductor orientation and cable clearance before final fixing

Typical Applications

Battery Systems

Monitor higher-current battery charge and discharge current using a 4 20mA signal.

UPS and DC Power

Suitable for UPS, telecom DC power, DC distribution and backup systems.

DC Motor Control

Measure DC motor current and provide current feedback to control or monitoring systems.

Industrial Automation

Connect directly to PLC, remote I/O, data logger or SCADA analogue input cards.

Renewable Energy

Useful for selected AC/DC current monitoring points in solar, wind or hybrid energy systems.

IoTWatt 4.0

Can be integrated into IoTWatt 4.0 through compatible analogue input modules or remote I/O systems.

Installation Note

High-intensity magnetic fields can change the values measured by the transducer. Avoid installation near permanent magnets, electromagnets or iron masses that may induce strong changes in the magnetic field. If irregular measurement is observed, reorient or relocate the transducer to a more suitable position.

Wiring note: As the QI-300-I is loop-powered, confirm the available loop supply voltage, PLC input type, loop resistance and required 4 20mA scaling before commissioning.

System Integration

QI-300-I is suitable for installations where higher AC/DC current needs to be converted into a standard industrial 4 20mA signal. The output can be connected to analogue input modules, PLC cards, remote I/O, data loggers, controllers, BMS, EMS or industrial IoT systems.

  • Use 4 20mA input for long-distance analogue signal transmission
  • Connect to PLC, SCADA, EMS, BMS or data logger analogue inputs
  • Use compatible analogue input modules for IoTWatt 4.0 integration
  • Confirm RMS / DC mode based on the application
  • Verify 4 20mA scaling and current direction during commissioning
