Is this the same as a standard "Stereo" plug?
No. A standard stereo plug is TRS (3-pole). This is TRRS (4-pole), which adds an extra ring for the microphone. It will work in stereo jacks, but it is specifically required if your cable has a microphone.
Does it support CTIA or OMTP wiring?
Yes. This hardware supports both. The difference between CTIA (Apple/Modern Android) and OMTP (Older Nokia/Sony) is how you solder the Microphone and Ground wires to the sleeve and the second ring.
Is it hard to solder?
Due to the four poles being close together, we recommend using a fine-point soldering tip and a "helping hands" tool. It is perfect for 24-30 AWG headset wires.
