If you are a parent with myopia, your child’s eyes are biologically predisposed to elongate at a faster rate than their peers. The clinical risk increases significantly based on parental history:

The Goal: This is the best time to start treatment. It is much easier to keep a healthy eye stable than it is to fix one that has already stretched too far. We have a much higher success rate here.

High Myopes (above -6.00D): the eye has grown significantly longer than it should be. This causes the internal layers—the retina and the choroid —to become dangerously thin and fragile.

The Risk: Just like a balloon that is over-inflated, these thin areas are much more likely to tear or develop diseases later in life. At this stage, our focus is on "damage control" to prevent even further stretching.
