PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Nippon Paint EA9 Finish HB (High Build) is a premium two-pack, amine-adduct cured epoxy coating designed for superior corrosion protection. Specifically engineered for durability, this high-build coating is ideal for both immersion and non-immersion services. Whether you are protecting industrial steelwork, storage tanks, or concrete floors, EA9 Finish HB provides a robust, chemical-resistant barrier that ensures long-term structural integrity.

As a food-grade certified epoxy, it is the industry standard for lining storage tanks containing potable water, edible oils (like palm oil), and other aqueous solutions. Its low-gloss finish and high abrasion resistance make it a versatile choice for heavy-duty environments.



TECHNICAL DATA

• Product Type: Two-pack amine-adduct cured epoxy (Base and Hardener).

• Finish: Low Gloss.

• Volume Solids: 55% ± 2% (provides excellent film build per coat).

• Mixing Ratio: 9 parts Base to 1 part Hardener (by volume).

• Drying Time (at 28-30°C): * Touch Dry: 1–2 hours.

                                               * Hard Dry: 4–5 hours.
• Theoretical Coverage: 6.8 m²/litre (at 80 microns DFT) to 3.6 m²/litre (at 150 microns DFT).
  
• Pot Life: 4–6 hours after mixing (at 25-30°C).

APPLICATION INSTRUCTION

1. Mixing: Stir the Base component thoroughly. Gradually add the Hardener component and continue stirring until a completely homogeneous mixture is achieved. Allow a 10–15 minute induction time before application.

2. Methods: * Airless Spray (Preferred): Provides the best high-build finish. Use tip size 0.015”–0.017”                      at 140–170 kg/cm².
                    * Brush/Roller: Suitable for small areas or touch-ups; thinning with up to 5% Nippon SA-                        65 Thinner is recommended for better flow.
   
   
3. Thinning: Use Nippon SA-65 Thinner only. Add 5% for spray/roller and up to 10-15% for compressed air spray if required.

RECOMMENDED COATING SYSTEM (2-3 Points)

• Steel Surfaces:

  • Primer: 1 coat of EA9 Red Oxide Primer or Nippon Zinc Phosphate Blast Primer.

  • Finish: 2 coats of EA9 Finish HB.

• Concrete/Masonry:

  • Primer: 1 coat of EA9 Finish HB (diluted 10-15% for penetration).

  • Finish: 2 coats of EA9 Finish HB.

• Non-Ferrous Metal (Aluminium/Galvanised):

  • Primer: 1 coat of Etching Primer 120 or Vinilex 120 Active Primer.

  • Finish: 2 coats of EA9 Finish HB.

     
SURFACE PREPARATION

1. Steel: For optimum performance, abrasive blasting to Sa 2½ (ISO 8501-1:1988) is required. Surface must be dry and free from rust, oil, and grease.

2. Concrete: Surfaces must be fully cured (min. 28 days), clean, and dry. Remove laitance and contaminants via light grit blasting or mechanical grinding.

3. Moisture Content: Ensure the substrate moisture content is below 6% (measured by a Sovereign moisture meter) and the surface temperature is at least 3°C above the dew point.

4. Previously Painted Surfaces: Remove all loose or flaking paint. For existing epoxy coatings, the surface must be abraded/sanded to ensure inter-coat adhesion.
   
5. Cleaning: Use solvent cleaning (SSPC-SP1) to remove oil, grease, and fatty acids before any mechanical preparation.
