Instructions for Using PD3170A

  1. Input Connection:

    • Connect the input voltage (VIN) to the IN pin. Ensure the input voltage is within the specified range (4.5V to 40V).
  2. Output Connection:

    • Connect the output load to the OUT pin. The output voltage can be adjusted using an external resistor divider.
  3. Adjusting Output Voltage:

    • Use the following formula to set the output voltage: [ V_ = 1.25 left(1 + fracright) ] where ( R_1 ) is the resistor connected between the ADJ pin and ground, and ( R_2 ) is the resistor connected between the ADJ pin and the OUT pin.
  4. Ground Connection:

    • Ensure a solid ground connection by connecting the GND pin to the system ground.
  5. Thermal Considerations:

    • Place the PD3170A on a heatsink or a PCB with adequate copper area to dissipate heat, especially when operating at high currents.
  6. Capacitors:

    • Use a 1μF ceramic capacitor from the IN pin to GND to filter input noise.
    • Use a 1μF ceramic capacitor from the OUT pin to GND to stabilize the output.
  7. Shutdown Function:

    • To shut down the device, connect the SHDN pin to GND. The device will enter a low-power mode with minimal quiescent current.
    • To activate the device, connect the SHDN pin to VIN or leave it floating.
  8. Overcurrent Protection:

    • The PD3170A has built-in overcurrent protection that limits the output current to prevent damage.
  9. Thermal Shutdown:

    • The device will automatically shut down if the junction temperature exceeds 160°C to prevent thermal damage.
