Instructions for SN74LS148N
Power Supply:
- Connect VCC to +5V and GND to 0V.
- Ensure that the supply voltage remains within the specified range (4.75V to 5.25V).
Inputs:
- The SN74LS148N has eight active-low inputs (I0 to I7).
- Apply a low signal (0V) to the input you want to encode.
- Unused inputs should be tied to VCC (5V) to avoid floating conditions.
Outputs:
- The encoder provides three active-low binary outputs (Y0, Y1, Y2) representing the encoded value of the active input.
- An additional output, GS (Group Strobe), goes low when any of the inputs are active.
- The EO (Enable Out) output can be used to cascade multiple encoders.
Enable Inputs:
- The encoder has two enable inputs: EI (Enable In) and EI* (Enable In Complement).
- To enable the encoder, set EI low and EI* high.
- If both EI and EI* are not used, tie EI to GND and EI* to VCC.
Cascading:
- To cascade multiple SN74LS148N encoders, connect the EO output of one encoder to the EI input of the next.
- The cascaded encoders will encode inputs from a larger number of lines.
Propagation Delay:
- The propagation delay time (tpd) is the time it takes for the output to change after an input change.
- Ensure that your system timing accounts for this delay.
Power Dissipation:
- The maximum power dissipation is 100mW. Ensure that the device is not operated beyond this limit to avoid overheating.
Operating Temperature:
- The device can operate over a wide temperature range (-55°C to 125°C). Ensure that the operating environment does not exceed these limits.
By following these instructions, you can effectively use the SN74LS148N Priority Encoder in your digital circuits.
