6S Training: Creating a Culture of Excellence

  1. INTRODUCTION

    6S is a systematic methodology derived from the Japanese practice of 5S, designed to create and maintain a safe, clean, organized, and efficient workplace.  The ''6th S'' represents Safety, emphasizing that occupational safety and employee well-being must always come first in any process improvement effort.  This approach is an effective, sustainable, and cost-neutral way to optimize occupational safety, quality management, and environmental management.  It serves as the essential foundation for more advanced systems like Lean Manufacturing and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

     

  2. COURSE OBJECTIVES
    The objectives of this training are to ensure participants can:

    • Change their mindset to view workplace cleanliness and organization as critical to the company's well-being.
    • Identify the 8 wastes (TIMWOODS) - Transport, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Over-processing, Defects, and Skills, and understand how 6S makes them visible for elimination.
    • Apply the six steps of 6S in a hierarchical manner to achieve high-performance results.
    • Support company-wide KPIs by understanding how 6S removes hazards (Safety), prevents lost parts (Quality), improves productivity (Cost), and enhances on-time delivery.

     

  3. COURSE CONTENTS
    • Phase 1: Foundation & Risk Assessment - Safety and Sort (Seiri)
    • Phase 2: Organization & Inspection - Straighten (Seiton) and Shine (Seisou)
    • Phase 3: Standardization & Continuous Discipline - Standardize (Seiketsu) and Sustain (Shitsuke)

    This course is relevant for all employees across the organization including: Shopfloor Personnel and Operators, Office and Administrative Staff, Management and Executives, Quality and Maintenance Engineers.
