The infill is designed to maximize the contact time between falling water and rising air. As an HVAC and Clean Air Specialist, we focus on two primary types of infill based on your warehouse or building’s water quality:
Film Fill (High Efficiency): This is the "honeycomb" structure that spreads water into a very thin film. It offers the highest heat rejection but is sensitive to poor water quality. In the Klang Valley, these often become brittle from UV exposure and chemical stress.
Splash Fill (High Durability): Used in industrial settings where the water may contain high levels of suspended solids. It breaks the water into small droplets. While less efficient than film fill, it is much easier to clean and maintain.
Neglecting brittle or clogged infill causes several cascading M&E failures:
Increased Static Pressure: When the "honeycomb" is clogged with scale, the fan motor has to work harder to pull air through. This draws more Amperes and can burn out the motor windings or damage the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD).
Chiller Inefficiency: If the water returning to the chiller is even 2 degrees hotter than design, the chiller compressor can consume up to 6% more electricity.
Legionella Breeding Ground: Clogged infill creates "dead zones" where water stagnates, providing the perfect warm, dark environment for bacteria to multiply.
We follow a structured engineering process to ensure the new infill performs at 100% capacity:
Old Infill Removal and Basin Scrubbing: We remove the heavy, sludge-filled old blocks and deep-clean the cold water basin.
Support Grid Inspection: Before the new blocks go in, we inspect the internal steel or FRP support beams for rust and structural integrity.
Gap-Free Installation: We cut and fit the new blocks to ensure there is no "Air Bypass." If air can go around the infill instead of through it, you lose cooling capacity.
Nozzle Realignment: We chemically clean the spray nozzles to ensure the new infill is 100% wetted. "Dry spots" on new infill are a waste of investment.
