In the high-humidity environment of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, the cooling tower fan is the primary mechanical driver for heat rejection. Operating in a constant 100% humidity "rain zone," these fans are subject to intense corrosive stress, leading to blade fatigue, bearing failure, and gearbox leaks. A faulty fan doesn't just reduce efficiency—it causes the Chiller plant to work harder, spiking your TNB bills or leading to a total system trip.
EKG M&E Sdn Bhd provides specialized mechanical restoration to ensure your airflow remains at its design Cubic Meters per Hour (CMH).
As an HVAC and Clean Air Specialist, we focus on the "Drive Train" of the fan assembly:
Over time, fiberglass (FRP) or aluminum blades can develop leading-edge erosion or cracks.
The Repair: We perform structural FRP patching and UV-resistant recoating.
The Calibration: We use digital inclinometers to ensure every blade is set to the exact same Pitch Angle. Even a 0.5 difference creates an aerodynamic imbalance that causes vibration.
A "screeching" or "grinding" noise is a sign of bearing race failure.
The Repair: We replace worn bearings with high-load, sealed-for-life units. We also perform Laser Alignment on the fan shaft to ensure it is perfectly perpendicular to the motor/gearbox, preventing "Side-Loading" that prematurely destroys new bearings.
For larger towers, the gearbox is a critical failure point.
The Repair: We perform oil seal replacements to stop leaks and inspect the internal "Backlash" of the gears. For belt-driven units, we replace weathered belts and align the pulleys to ensure maximum torque transfer without slipping.
A fan repair is only complete once it is electronically balanced and controlled.
In-Situ Dynamic Balancing:
Using laser accelerometers, we balance the fan assembly while it is mounted in the tower. This achieves ISO 1940 G2.5 standards, eliminating the vibration that cracks the tower's FRP casing.
VFD Recalibration:
We integrate and program Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for the fan motor. This allows for a "Soft-Start," preventing the mechanical shock of a sudden 100% power surge (Inrush Current), which extends the life of the repair by years.
| Component | Symptom of Failure | EKG M&E Rectification |
| Blades | High Vibration / Low Airflow. | Structural Repair & Pitch Calibration. |
| Motor/Bearings | Grinding Noise / High Amps. | Replacement & Laser Alignment. |
| Gearbox/Belts | Oil Leaks / Screeching. | Seal Replacement & Tensioning. |
| Fan Shroud | Rubbing Scrapes / Noise. | Structural Centering & Clearance Check. |
Thermal Capacity Audit: After the repair, we use calibrated anemometers to verify that the fan is pulling the required volume of air to meet your Chiller's "Approach Temperature."
Structural Safety: We inspect the fan's mounting beams for rust and fatigue, ensuring the restored fan doesn't collapse into the tower.
Strategic Support: Based in Kuala Lumpur, we provide turnkey fan overhauls, motor rewinding, and scheduled maintenance for commercial and industrial facilities.
