In the vast industrial warehouses, factories, and retail atria of KL and PJ, managing the initial "heat spike" of a fire is critical to structural survival. EKG M&E Sdn Bhd specializes in Natural Smoke and Heat Exhaust Ventilators (NSHEV), also known as Automatic Smoke Vents. These systems use the natural buoyancy of hot gases to exhaust smoke without the need for mechanical fans, providing a fail-safe secondary defense that meets BOMBA and Uniform Building By-Laws (UBBL) standards.
NSHEVs operate on the principle of thermal buoyancy (the "Stack Effect"). As a fire develops, smoke and heat rise rapidly to the ceiling. If trapped, this heat can lead to "Flashover"—where the entire room ignites—or structural steel failure.
Buoyancy-Driven Extraction: By opening a vent at the highest point of the roof, the hot, high-pressure smoke is pushed out by the cooler, denser air entering at the lower levels.
The Smoke Reservoir: We often pair NSHEVs with "Smoke Curtains" to create a reservoir in the ceiling. This prevents smoke from spreading horizontally across the entire factory floor and concentrates it directly under the vent for maximum exhaust efficiency.
Fail-Safe Operation: Unlike mechanical fans that may fail if the power cable is burnt, natural vents are designed to open even during a total power blackout using stored energy (gas springs or gravity).
Thermal & Electrical Triggering:
Each vent is equipped with a Fusible Link that melts at a specific temperature (e.g., 68°C or 93°C), triggering a mechanical release. Additionally, we interlock these with the Main Fire Alarm Panel (MFAP) using 24V DC actuators to open the vents the moment smoke is detected.
Dual-Purpose Functionality:
Beyond fire safety, our NSHEVs can be used for Daily Natural Ventilation. This allows hot air to escape during normal working hours, reducing the load on your cooling system and improving worker comfort in non-AC warehouses.
Weather-Proof Reliability:
Given Malaysia's heavy tropical downpours, we utilize high-grade EPDM gaskets and specialized bird-beak flashing to ensure the vents remain 100% watertight when closed.
| Feature | Requirement (UBBL/BOMBA) | EKG M&E Performance |
| Opening Angle | Minimum 90° to 140°. | Maximum aerodynamic free area. |
| Snow/Wind Load | Must open against resistance. | Class WL 1500 (High-wind stable). |
| Reliability Class | RE 1000 (1,000 cycles). | Industrial-grade heavy-duty hinges. |
| Response Time | Immediate upon link melt. | High-speed gas spring activation. |
HVAC & Clean Air Specialist: We ensure your NSHEV placement does not conflict with your air conditioning "short-circuiting." We analyze the building's airflow to ensure that opening a vent doesn't accidentally suck smoke into a sensitive office zone.
BOMBA Compliance & Testing: We provide the Testing & Commissioning (T&C) reports and "Form G" certifications required for your annual Fire Certificate (FC). We also perform "Live Drop Tests" to ensure every vent opens smoothly.
Klang Valley Strategic Support: Based in Kuala Lumpur, we provide on-site maintenance, link replacement, and seal audits for logistics hubs and manufacturing plants across the Klang Valley.
