Ant colonies function as
superorganisms, ranging from a few dozen to millions of individuals. The survival of the colony depends on its specialized castes:
- Queens: The primary reproductive members responsible for laying thousands of eggs.
- Males: Reproductive ants whose primary role is to mate with the queen.
- Workers: Sterile females that handle foraging, nest maintenance, and defense.
They vary in size from 2 to 25 mm, with colors ranging from yellow and brown to red and black.
