A Closed-loop System is a hydronic circuit where the water is completely sealed from the atmosphere. Unlike an "open" system (like a cooling tower), the water in a closed loop is recirculated indefinitely, meaning the same water moves from the heat source to the heat emitter and back again.
Because the water is not exposed to the air, these systems are highly efficient, require less chemical treatment than open loops, and are the standard for chilled water air conditioning and industrial process cooling. EKG (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd specializes in the design, installation, and precision maintenance of these critical circuits.
A successful closed-loop system relies on the perfect synchronization of several mechanical and electrical components:
The "heart" of the system. In a closed loop, the pump doesn't have to "lift" water to a height (gravity is balanced by the falling return water); it only needs to overcome the friction of the pipes and valves.
Primary Pumps: Maintain constant flow through the chiller/boiler.
Secondary Pumps: Often use VFDs to distribute water to different zones based on demand.
Water expands when heated and contracts when cooled. Since the system is sealed, an expansion tank (often with a rubber bladder) provides a "cushion" to absorb these pressure changes, preventing pipes from bursting or joints from leaking.
Air is the enemy of a hydronic system. It causes corrosion, noise, and reduces heat transfer efficiency. Air separators use internal baffles to slow the water down, allowing micro-bubbles to rise and be exhausted through automatic vents.
The water travels to Air Handling Units (AHUs) or Fan Coil Units (FCUs), where it absorbs heat from the building air before returning to the chiller to be cooled again.
While closed loops require less water makeup than open systems, they are not "maintenance-free." EKG (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd provides specialized services to prevent the three main threats to a closed loop:
Corrosion & Scale: Even in a sealed system, anaerobic bacteria and dissolved minerals can damage pipes. We provide Chemical Dosing & Analysis to maintain the correct pH and inhibitor levels.
Hydronic Imbalance: If water takes the "path of least resistance," some rooms will be freezing while others stay hot. We perform Hydronic Balancing to ensure every zone receives the design flow rate.
Pump Misalignment: Vibration from misaligned pumps can lead to leaks at mechanical seals and flange joints. We use Laser Shaft Alignment to ensure silent, long-term operation.
Total MEP Oversight: We manage the mechanical pumps, the electrical control panels (VSD/VFD), and the plumbing integrity as a single integrated system.
ISO-Certified Quality: Our technicians follow international standards for pressurized hydronic systems, ensuring safety and efficiency.
Energy Savings: By optimizing your loop’s Delta-T (temperature difference) and pump speeds, we help you significantly reduce monthly utility costs.
Strategic Support in Selangor: We provide rapid on-site troubleshooting for commercial and industrial facilities across the Klang Valley.
A poorly maintained closed loop can lead to high energy bills, noisy pipes, and uncomfortable tenants. Trust the engineering experts at EKG (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to keep your water circulation system balanced and efficient.
