Indications

Montelukast (the active ingredient in Asthator 4 /mg chewable tablets) is indicated for:

• Prevention and chronic treatment of asthma in patients aged 12 months and older, including children aged 2–5 /years using the 4 /mg chewable form

• Prevention of exercise induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) in individuals aged 6 /years and older, taken at least 2 /hours before exercise 

• Relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis in patients aged 2 /years and older, and perennial allergic rhinitis in those aged 6 /months and older (4 /mg chewable suitable from age 2–5)
  
   

  Instructions

• When to take:

  • For chronic asthma and allergic rhinitis: once daily in the evening (or once daily at a consistent time for rhinitis)

  • For exercise-induced bronchoconstriction: a single dose at least 2 /hours before exercise; do not take an extra dose within 24 /hours if already on daily montelukast 

• Recommended dose (by age):

  • Children 2–5 /years: 4 /mg chewable tablet once daily in the evening (which is Asthator 4 /mg)

  • Higher dosages (5 /mg or 10 /mg) apply for older children or adults, but those are outside the scope of the 4 /mg formulation.

• Missed dose guidance:

  • If a dose is missed, take the next dose at your regular time. Do not take two doses at once

• Administration with food:

  • Can be taken with or without food; absorption is not affected by meals
