2026 Toyota Vios HEV Officially Launched in Malaysia

The 2026 Toyota Vios HEV has officially launched in Malaysia, marking the first time the Vios nameplate is offered with hybrid electrification locally. Known as the Yaris Ativ HEV in Thailand, the new hybrid Vios is locally assembled (CKD) at UMW Toyota Motor’s Bukit Raja plant in Shah Alam and expands the current Vios lineup with two new variants positioned above the existing petrol models.

Both the Vios 1.5 HEV and the range-topping Vios 1.5 HEV GR Sport share the same hybrid powertrain but are differentiated through equipment levels and chassis tuning. Pricing starts at RM103,900 for the Vios 1.5 HEV, while the sportier Vios 1.5 HEV GR Sport is priced at RM109,900, placing the model directly against rivals such as the Honda City Hybrid in the B-segment sedan market.

Powering both variants is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 4.3 Ah lithium-ion battery, combined with a dedicated E-CVT transmission. The system delivers a combined output of 111 PS, representing a 5% increase over the non-hybrid Vios, while fuel efficiency is rated at an impressive 3.6 L/100 km (NEDC), a 31% improvement compared to the conventional petrol variants.

In terms of ownership assurance, both Vios HEV variants come with a 5-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, complemented by an 8-year unlimited mileage warranty for the hybrid battery and hybrid components, reinforcing Toyota’s confidence in its hybrid technology.

Equipment levels are also improved across both variants, featuring a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry and push-start, as well as the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) ADAS suite offered as standard. Buyers opting for the Vios 1.5 HEV GR Sport benefit further from a sport-tuned suspension, sport-calibrated electric power steering, GR Sport-branded leather seats and steering wheel, a full GR Sport aerokit, and 17-inch GR Sport alloy wheels for a more aggressive appearance.

With the introduction of the Vios HEV, Toyota Malaysia has taken a significant step in electrifying one of its best-selling models, offering greater fuel efficiency, enhanced technology, and added driving appeal while strengthening its position in the competitive hybrid B-segment sedan space.
