HIV and STI Prevention by Dr Gan at Southern AlphaMen Clinic

Doorstep Medication Delivery Available

Protect Your Sexual Health with Preventive Medication

Preventive medications such as Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (DoxyPEP) can significantly reduce the risk of acquiring HIV and, in selected individuals, certain bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

At Southern AlphaMen Clinic, Dr Gan provides confidential consultations, screening and personalised preventive care based on your individual risk profile and current clinical guidelines.

For suitable patients, we also offer doorstep medication delivery, providing convenient access to ongoing preventive treatment.

Patients from Johor Bahru and Singapore are welcome.

What Is PrEP?

Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is a prescription medication taken before potential HIV exposure to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV.

When taken consistently as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective at preventing HIV infection through sexual exposure. However, it does not protect against other sexually transmitted infections, so condom use and regular STI screening remain important.

PrEP is suitable for people with ongoing or anticipated HIV exposure risk.

What Is PEP?

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) is an emergency HIV prevention treatment started after a potential exposure to HIV.

PEP should be:

The earlier PEP is started, the more effective it is likely to be. If you believe you have been exposed to HIV, seek medical attention immediately.

What Is DoxyPEP?

DoxyPEP involves taking a prescribed dose of doxycycline after certain sexual exposures to reduce the risk of selected bacterial STIs.

Current clinical evidence suggests DoxyPEP may reduce the risk of:

It may also reduce the risk of gonorrhoea in some populations, although effectiveness is lower because of increasing antibiotic resistance.

DoxyPEP is not suitable for everyone and should only be used after medical assessment according to current clinical guidelines.

Who May Benefit?

PrEP

PrEP may be suitable for individuals who:

PEP

PEP may be recommended following:

Treatment must begin within 72 hours.

DoxyPEP

DoxyPEP may be considered for selected individuals with a higher risk of recurrent bacterial STIs after a personalised medical assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How effective is PrEP?

When taken consistently as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective at reducing the risk of acquiring HIV through sexual exposure. It does not protect against other STIs, so safer sex practices and regular screening remain important.

When should I start PEP?

PEP should be started as soon as possible, ideally within a few hours after potential HIV exposure and no later than 72 hours afterwards. If you think you have been exposed, seek medical attention immediately.

How long do I take PEP?

PEP is typically taken daily for 28 days, with follow-up HIV testing according to medical guidelines.

What is the difference between PrEP and PEP?

PrEP is taken before potential HIV exposure to reduce the risk of infection, while PEP is an emergency treatment started after a possible HIV exposure and must begin within 72 hours.

Does DoxyPEP prevent HIV?

No. DoxyPEP does not prevent HIV infection. It is intended to reduce the risk of certain bacterial STIs, such as syphilis and chlamydia, in selected individuals. HIV prevention requires PrEP, PEP or other appropriate strategies.

Will I need HIV testing before starting PrEP?

Yes. HIV testing is required before starting PrEP to confirm that you do not already have HIV. Regular follow-up testing is also recommended while taking PrEP.

Can I order PrEP medication with doorstep delivery?

Yes. Eligible patients who have been assessed by Dr Gan and prescribed PrEP may arrange doorstep medication delivery, subject to clinical suitability and delivery availability.

Are consultations confidential?

Yes. All consultations, investigations and treatments are conducted in a private and confidential clinical setting.

Are all consultations performed by a doctor?

Yes. At Southern AlphaMen Clinic, all consultations, assessments and prescriptions are provided by certified doctors.

Can I walk in without an appointment?

Yes. Walk-in patients are welcome, subject to doctor availability. However, appointments via WhatsApp or telephone are recommended, especially if you require urgent PEP after a potential HIV exposure.

Need PEP Urgently?

PEP is time-sensitive and should be started within 72 hours of potential HIV exposure.

If you think you may have been exposed to HIV, contact Southern AlphaMen Clinic immediately to arrange an urgent assessment.

Medical Disclaimer: PrEP, PEP and DoxyPEP are prescription medications that require medical assessment to determine suitability. Not everyone is an appropriate candidate, and regular follow-up, laboratory testing and adherence to treatment are important for safe and effective use.
