CALDUR® copper test set – colorimetric

What is copper used to measure?

Copper (Cu) is an essential trace element, but can be harmful to health in elevated concentrations. The limit for drinking water is 2 mg/l (Drinking Water Ordinance). Copper enters drinking water primarily through copper pipes, especially in soft, acidic water with a low pH value.
Elevated copper concentrations can lead to a greenish discoloration of the water, cause a metallic taste, and trigger gastrointestinal problems in sensitive individuals. In aquariums, even small amounts of copper are toxic to fish and invertebrates.
Regular monitoring of the copper content is therefore particularly important in new copper installations, in aquariums, in swimming pools and in industrial water treatment.

How does the test kit work?

The CALDUR® Copper Test Set – Colorimetric works according to the cuprizone method. Cuprizone forms a blue to violet color complex with copper(II) ions, the intensity of which is proportional to the copper concentration.
After adding two reagents and allowing a reaction time of 5 minutes, the measured value is determined by direct color comparison with a 6-step color chart.
