In the tropical climate of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, the density of the air changes significantly between the rainy monsoon season and the peak afternoon heat. Fan Pitch Adjustment is the M&E process of calibrating the angle of the axial fan blades to optimize the volume of air (CMH) being pulled through the cooling tower.
EKG M&E Sdn Bhd provides precision pitch calibration to ensure your tower rejects maximum heat without overloading the motor or exceeding your TNB power budget.
The "Pitch" is the angle of the blade relative to the plane of rotation. As an HVAC and Clean Air Specialist, we treat this as a balancing act between airflow and electrical load.
Increasing the Pitch: Steeper angles move more air, increasing the cooling capacity of the tower. However, this creates more "Aerodynamic Drag," which causes the motor to draw more Amperes (A).
Decreasing the Pitch: Shallower angles reduce the load on the motor and lower noise levels, but may result in "High Head Pressure" at the Chiller because the tower isn't rejecting enough heat.
We don't just "guess" the angle; we use a data-driven approach to find the Operating Sweet Spot.
We use high-precision digital levels to ensure every blade in the hub is set to the exact same degree (typically within ±0.2°).
The Risk: If one blade is at 12° and another is at 14°, the "Asymmetric Lift" creates a massive mechanical imbalance, leading to vibration that destroys your motor bearings.
While adjusting the pitch, we monitor the motor’s electrical draw. We ensure the fan never exceeds 90% of the Nameplate FLA. This provides a "Thermal Safety Margin" for the 2:00 PM peak heat in Malaysia, preventing the motor from tripping on "Overload."
We synchronize the physical pitch with your Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) settings.
The Strategy: If we increase the pitch for more cooling, we recalibrate the VSD/VFD "Soft-Start" ramp time to handle the increased starting torque, protecting your internal copper windings.
| Adjustment Type | Pro | Con |
| Increased Pitch | Maximum Heat Rejection. | High TNB Cost / High Noise. |
| Decreased Pitch | Low Energy / Quiet. | Risk of Chiller High-Temp Trip. |
| EKG M&E Balanced Pitch | Optimized for KL Design Temp. | Requires Periodic Audits. |
Psychrometric Alignment: we calculate the required Cubic Meters per Hour (CMH) based on the local Wet Bulb Temperature in the Klang Valley to ensure your pitch is set for real-world performance.
Structural Safety: We check the Fan Cylinder (Shroud) clearance. A change in pitch can cause "Blade Flex," and we ensure the tips never strike the casing during high-speed operation.
Strategic Support: Based in Kuala Lumpur, we provide turnkey pitch adjustment, dynamic balancing, and scheduled maintenance for commercial and industrial facilities.
