In the vast open spaces of KL and PJ, such as shopping mall atria, hotel lobbies, and high-ceiling factories, smoke can spread horizontally across an entire floor in seconds. EKG M&E Sdn Bhd specializes in Smoke Curtain System Integration, a critical "Active-Passive" fire safety solution. These automated fabric barriers drop from the ceiling during an alarm to "reservoir" smoke in a specific zone, allowing your extraction fans to remove it efficiently.
A smoke curtain is not designed to stop fire; it is designed to manage the "Smoke Plume." Without curtains, smoke spreads in a thin, cooling layer across the entire ceiling, making it difficult for roof fans to "catch."
Creating a Smoke Reservoir: By dropping a curtain, we create a deep "inverted pool" of smoke. This keeps the smoke concentrated and hot, which increases its buoyancy and allows the Smoke Spill Fans to extract it at the mandatory 10 Air Changes Per Hour (ACH).
Protecting Means of Escape: We integrate curtains to shield "Safe Zones" like shop-fronts or office corridors. By dropping a curtain at the edge of an atrium, we prevent smoke from "spilling" into the upper-floor walkways where occupants are fleeing.
Structural Heat Protection: By containing the hottest gases within a specific reservoir, smoke curtains help prevent the building's structural steel from reaching critical failure temperatures during the initial stages of a fire.
As an HVAC & Clean Air Specialist, we ensure the smoke curtain is perfectly synchronized with the rest of your M&E infrastructure:
Fire Alarm Interlock (MFAP):
Upon a smoke detector signal, the Main Fire Alarm Panel sends a 24V DC signal to the curtain controller. The curtain then deploys via a "Gravity Fail-Safe" system, ensuring it drops even if the building loses power.
The "Two-Stage" Drop:
In high-traffic areas, we program a two-stage descent. The curtain drops to 2.5 meters (the "header" height) to allow people to run under it, then completes its drop to the final design height after a 60-second delay.
HVAC & Damper Synchronization:
When the curtain drops, the integration logic must ensure that any Motorized Smoke Dampers within that specific reservoir open immediately to begin extraction, while dampers in other zones remain closed to maintain suction pressure.
VFD Exhaust Ramping:
We program the Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to ramp up the exhaust fans only once the curtains have reached their deployed position, preventing the fans from sucking "clean air" from outside the reservoir.
| Feature | Standard Requirement (UBBL/BOMBA) | EKG M&E Integration Standard |
| Material Rating | Fire-resistant glass fiber (D120). | 120 Minutes @ 600°C - 1000°C. |
| Deployment Speed | 0.06m/s to 0.30m/s. | Controlled, safe descent. |
| Fail-Safe | Must drop on power loss. | Gravity-fall with battery backup. |
| Clearance | Maintain 2.5m head height (Stage 1). | Safety-first evacuation logic. |
Integrated M&E Specialist: We don't just "hang a curtain." We analyze the Static Pressure of your smoke spill system to ensure the extraction rate is balanced with the size of the reservoir created by the curtains.
Testing & Commissioning (T&C): We provide professional Hot Smoke Visualization Testing to prove to BOMBA and building owners that the curtains successfully trap the smoke and the fans successfully remove it.
Klang Valley Strategic Support: Based in Kuala Lumpur, we provide on-site maintenance, battery replacement, and annual "Drop Tests" for smoke curtain systems across the Klang Valley's premier retail and industrial sites.
