When a fire or gas leak occurs, the emergency ventilation system transitions the building from "Comfort Mode" to "Life-Safety Mode" to achieve three main goals:
Toxic Smoke Extraction: High-capacity axial fans remove hot gases and smoke from the fire zone at a rate of 10 Air Changes Per Hour (ACH). This maintains a "Clear Layer" at the floor level, providing visibility for occupants to escape.
Stairwell and Lift Lobby Pressurization: The system pumps fresh outdoor air into exit routes to create a Positive Pressure (typically 50 Pa). This acts as a physical shield, ensuring that smoke cannot enter the stairs even when doors are opened during evacuation.
Heat Reduction and Flashover Prevention: By venting hot gases at the highest point of an atrium or warehouse, the system prevents "Flashover"—the point where radiant heat causes all surfaces in a room to ignite simultaneously.
High-Temperature Rated Motors:
Our emergency fans are equipped with Class H motors, certified to operate at 250 degrees Celsius for a minimum of 2 hours. This ensures the system does not fail when it is needed most.
VFD Fire-Mode Override:
While we use Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) for daily energy efficiency, the system features a "Fire-Mode" logic. Upon a signal from the Fire Alarm Panel, the VFD bypasses all motor protection and energy-saving limits to run the fans at 100% capacity immediately.
Motorized Fire and Smoke Dampers:
To prevent the ductwork from becoming a "highway" for smoke, we install motorized dampers that snap shut at fire-rated wall penetrations, isolating the fire zone from the rest of the building.
Secondary Power Integration (Genset):
All emergency ventilation components are wired with fire-rated cabling and connected to the building's backup generator via an Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS).
