Indications:

Vytorin is a combination of:

• Ezetimibe (10 mg) – reduces intestinal absorption of cholesterol.

• Simvastatin (40 mg) – reduces cholesterol production in the liver.

Vytorin 10/40 mg is used to:

1. Lower cholesterol and triglycerides in:

• Primary hypercholesterolemia (familial and non-familial)

• Mixed hyperlipidemia

• Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) – used with additional lipid-lowering treatments (e.g., LDL apheresis)

2. Prevent cardiovascular events in patients with:

• Coronary heart disease (CHD)

• Acute coronary syndrome (ACS)
  Reduces risk of:

  • Heart attack (MI)

  • Stroke

  • Revascularization procedures (e.g., angioplasty)

  • Cardiovascular-related death
     

    Instructions:

    Always follow your doctor’s specific instructions.

    Dosage:

  • Usual Dose: 1 tablet once daily

  • Preferred timing: In the evening

  • With or without food

  • The 10/40 mg dose is often:

  • Initiated in patients needing moderate to major cholesterol reduction

  • Continued if lower doses are not sufficient

  • Note: The maximum dose is 10/80 mg daily. Use of 10/80 /mg is restricted due to a higher risk of muscle injury unless the patient has been taking it for over 12 months without issues.
