Active Ingredient: Each film coated tablet contains 80 /mg gliclazide, a sulfonylurea class antidiabetic agent that stimulates pancreatic β cells to release insulin and improves peripheral glucose utilization.
Formulation: Tablets are typically white, circular, film coated, and may feature scoring.
Packaging: Commonly available in blister packs (e.g., strips of 10 or 60 tablets).
Indications
Prescribed for type 2 diabetes mellitus (non insulin dependent diabetes) in adults when blood glucose control is inadequate with diet, exercise, and weight loss alone.
Instructions for Use
Dosage (Adults/Elderly):
Initial dose: 40 to 80 /mg once daily (½ to 1 tablet), taken with food (e.g. breakfast or first main meal of the day) to reduce hypoglycaemia risk.
Dose may be adjusted gradually based on blood glucose response, up to a maximum of 320 /mg daily (not more than 160 /mg at one time).
For elderly or patients with mild-to-moderate hepatic or renal impairment, lower starting doses are advised and careful monitoring is required.
Administration Instructions:
Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew, crush, or break.
Best taken at a consistent time each day, preferably with breakfast or the first main meal, to maintain steady glucose control.
If a dose is missed, skip it and take the next dose at the scheduled time—do not take a double dose.
Always complete the full treatment course as prescribed—even if symptoms improve earlier.
Precautions:
Monitor blood glucose regularly and adjust dose as needed; periodic assessment of HbA 乧, renal and liver function recommended.
Consistent meal intake and regular exercise help reduce risk of hypoglycaemia.
Avoid alcohol consumption, which can amplify hypoglycaemic effects.
