Coefficient of Friction (COF) Testing – Anti-Slip Mat

Coefficient of Friction (COF) Testing – Anti-Slip Mat

A customer recently submitted a container anti-slip mat (rubber granulate / polymer-rubber material) to evaluate its frictional performance.

This type of material is widely used to prevent cargo movement during transportation, especially in containers, trucks, and logistics applications.

🔬 Test Standard

ASTM D1894 – Standard Test Method for Static and Kinetic Coefficient of Friction

⚙️ What We Evaluate

• Static COF (μs) – resistance to initial movement

• Dynamic COF (μd) – resistance during sliding motion

📊 Test Results

• μs = 1.026

• μd = 0.823

📌 Technical Insight

A high static COF (>1.0) indicates strong resistance to slip at initial contact, which is critical to prevent cargo from shifting during loading or sudden movement.

The dynamic COF reflects behavior once movement begins — ensuring the material still provides controlled friction and stability during transport vibrations.
