Perodua, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Introduce New xEV Talent Development Initiative

Perodua and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia have officially launched the Perodua-UTM xEV Engineering Programme, marking a significant step forward in developing talent for Malaysia’s electric vehicle (xEV) industry. This five-year collaboration is focused on strengthening expertise in EV technology and green mobility, ensuring graduates are better prepared for the future automotive landscape.

Under this programme, 10 to 15 top Electrical Engineering students will be selected annually to undergo a 1.5-year specialised training, starting from their third year of study. Participants will gain valuable industry exposure through a 10-week internship at Perodua, along with the opportunity to earn a Level 3 international certification from the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).

To support hands-on learning, Perodua will provide technical equipment and two units of the QV-E, allowing students to gain practical experience in EV systems. In addition, students’ final year projects will be co-supervised by Perodua engineers, ensuring their research aligns with real-world industry standards.

Further enhancing the programme, UTM has integrated Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) courses and advanced simulation technologies such as Hardware in the Loop (HIL) into its curriculum. This initiative aims to produce future-ready graduates with strong technical capabilities, positioning them competitively in the rapidly evolving EV sector.
