Noise & Hearing Conservation Training

  1. INTRODUCTION
Noise is a prevalent and aggressive occupational hazard across industrial sectors, frequently resulting in irreversible physiological damage.  Excessive noise exposure leads to noise-induced deafness - a permanent condition that is often painless and gradual, yet completely preventable.  As an Occupational Health and Safety priority, uncontrolled noise does more than damage hearing; it severely compromised workplace safety by interfering with essential communication and the audibility of warning signals.  Furthermore, chronic exposure is clinically linked to significant non-auditory health issues, including hypertension, cardiac diseases, and sleep disorders.  This training provides the technical framework necessary to mitigate these risks and ensure total regulatory compliance.

  1. COURSE OBJECTIVES
The This training program equips participants with the knowledge to identify and categorize distinct noise patterns, including steady, fluctuating, and impulse noise, while providing a deep understanding of the comprehensive legal requirements and employer obligations mandated under the Occupational Safety and Health (Noise Exposure) Regulations 2019.  Moving beyond foundational awareness, participants will master the technical interpretation of audiograms and the identification of a Standard Threshold Shift (STS), specifically learning how to calculate average shifts at the critical frequencies of 2000, 3000, and 4000 Hz.  Ultimately, the session ensures full operational compliance by enabling participants to expertly manage the selection, proper usage, and long-term maintenance of Hearing Protection Devices (HPD).

  2. COURSE CONTENTS

    • Introduction to Noise: Effects on health (auditory and systemic) and the mechanics of hearing.
    • Legal Framework: OSH (Noise Exposure) Regulations 2019 and mandatory exposure limits.
    • Audiometric Testing: Understanding audiograms and the calculation of Standard Threshold Shifts.
    • Practical workshop: Hearing Protection Devices (HPD) and the implementation of Engineering and Administrative control measures.
    • Review, Q&A, and Competency Assessment.

  1. WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This course is designed for Safety and Health Officers, Occupational Safety and Health Coordinator, Site Supervisors, Production Managers, Maintenance Personnel, and any employees exposed to daily noise levels exceeding the 82dB(A) action level.
