Key Considerations for Using DOT 3 Brake Fluid:

• Manufacturer Specification is Key: The most important rule is to always use the type of brake fluid specified in your vehicle's owner's manual. Vehicle braking systems are designed for specific fluid properties.
• Standard/Older Vehicles: DOT 3 fluid is commonly found in older vehicles (typically produced up until the 1990s and many Asian models) or standard, daily-driven cars with normal braking requirements that do not have high-performance braking systems.
• Driving Conditions: It is designed for everyday driving conditions. If you engage in heavy braking, aggressive driving, or towing a trailer, which generates more heat, a DOT 4 fluid might offer better performance and safety due to a higher boiling point (if the manufacturer allows its use).
• Composition and Compatibility: DOT 3 fluid is glycol-ether based. It is compatible and mixable with DOT 4 fluids (which are also glycol-based), but never mix it with the silicone-based DOT 5 fluid, as this can cause system failure.
