Daconil 2787 is a fungicide with the active ingredient Chlorothalonil at 50% w/w formulation (wettable powder, WP).
It belongs to the chemical group known as chloronitriles (FRAC group M5) — meaning it functions by contact and protective/curative activity.
Example product label: "DACONIL® 2787 is a fungicide from the chemical group of chloronitrile, having protection and curative actions."
Since it’s contact (and partly curative) it must reach the fungal infection site; typically it acts on the surface of leaves and stems, protecting healthy tissue and limiting spread of existing infections.
Because it’s a wettable powder, care must be taken in mixing, spraying evenly, and achieving good coverage.
It is described as “broad-spectrum protection” in online listings (covers many fungal diseases) in Malaysia.
According to Malaysian sources, this fungicide is suitable for various crops including: banana (for sigatoka leaf spot), ornamentals (leaf spots), vegetables (tomato, salad, cabbage) for leaf blight/hawang daun.
Example: “Sesuai untuk tanaman-tanaman: 1. Pokok pisang – sigatoka (bintik daun) 2. Bunga-bunga – bintik daun 3. Tomato, salad, kubis dan dll – hawar daun”
It may also be used for fruit trees and other foliage where leaf spots, downy mildew, and other foliar fungi are an issue.
Always read and follow the local label/instruction for your crop and region.
Typical preparation: The wettable powder must be well-mixed with water and sprayed to cover leaves thoroughly (upper and lower surfaces). Eg: one listing gives “Bancuh 20 g racun dengan 20 L air, selepas itu sembur ke tempat yang terkena kulat daun.” (Mix 20 g with 20 L water then spray on affected leaves)
Ensure equipment is clean, spray in suitable conditions (not too hot, avoid drift and run-off) so that spray contacts infection sites.
Apply at the first signs of disease or as a preventive measure when conditions favour disease (humid, warm, leaf wetness) because contact fungicides depend on getting to the right place before heavy infection.
Respect pre-harvest intervals (PHI) and re-entry intervals (REI) shown on label.
Storage: Store in original container, cool dry place, keep out of reach of children and animals. See MSDS for safe handling.
Because chlorothalonil is a contact fungicide, it does not move systemically within the plant (or very little). So it needs good spray coverage.
Resistance: While the active is not in one of the “high-risk” single-site groups like strobilurins, resistance management (rotate with fungicides of different modes of action) is still good practice.
Environmental & human safety: Use proper PPE (gloves, mask/respirator if needed, protective clothing). Avoid drift into water bodies. MSDS indicates handling precautions.
The product is classed as “Racun Kulat” (fungicide) and labelled accordingly in Malaysia; keep usage records if required by local regulation.
