The Jaecoo J5 is gearing up for its Malaysian debut this March, with Omoda & Jaecoo Malaysia confirming that the launch is just a few weeks away. While the exact date has yet to be announced, anticipation is building—especially after the brand revealed a lower estimated price of RM110,000, down from RM120,000 announced just a month earlier.
To sweeten the deal, early customers will enjoy a “Super Early Bird” package worth up to RM8,888 for bookings made before the official launch. This package includes a RM3,888 rebate, free first-year insurance worth approximately RM3,000, and an accessories bundle valued at RM2,000, consisting of an in-car subwoofer, a wireless karaoke microphone and a multifunctional flashlight.
Unlike markets such as Thailand and Indonesia, where the J5 is offered as an EV, the Malaysia-spec Jaecoo J5 is petrol-only. Power comes from a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 147 PS and 210 Nm, paired with a CVT gearbox driving the front wheels. Performance figures include a 0–100 km/h time of 10.2 seconds, a top speed of 175 km/h, and fuel consumption rated at 7.5L/100 km.
Positioned at the larger end of the B-segment SUV class, the J5 is wider and taller than the Honda HR-V, giving it a more commanding road presence and improved cabin space. Inside, the SUV features a modern, minimalist layout highlighted by a 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Premium touches come standard, including power-adjustable front seats with ventilation, a panoramic glass roof, a 360-degree camera system, and dual-zone climate control. The cabin also uses pet-friendly, TÜV-certified materials, making it suitable for pet owners.
On the safety front, the Jaecoo J5 is well-equipped with Level 2 ADAS, featuring adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert, among others.
With its revised pricing, generous early bird incentives, and a strong list of standard features, the Jaecoo J5 is shaping up to be a compelling new contender in Malaysia’s competitive B-segment SUV market.
