TQC Sheen enhanced Pendulum Hardness Tester offers a user-friendly solution for accurately measuring the hardness of paints and coatings. Supporting both König and Persoz testing methods, this versatile and modular system is engineered for reliability and ease of use. With improved performance and user experience, it is an ideal choice for laboratories and quality control environments.
From our specialist brand TQC Sheen, this flexible and easy to use pendulum tester is a reliable instrument for hardness testing on a wide range of paints and coatings. It offers many unique features that ease defining hardness by the König and/or Persoz method, as described in ISO 1522. Both methods work on the principle that the damping time of a pendulum oscillating on a sample indicates the hardness.
Ergonomic and robust design: Built for durability and ease of use, the TQC Sheen Pendulum Hardness Tester is a dependable solution for laboratory testing. Its intuitive calibration menu simplifies setup and ensures accurate results for both König and Persoz methods.
Reduce operator bias: To enhance repeatability and reduce human error, the tester features automated pendulum positioning via a precision stepper motor. The pendulum release is also fully automated using an electromagnetic system, ensuring consistent and unbiased test execution.
Intuitive LED Feedback System: The integrated LED status indicator provides clear, real-time feedback using a colored light system.
For calibrations, the instrument uses simple traffic-light colored light feedback:
This visual feedback helps operators quickly interpret results and maintain efficient workflows.
With the LED light strip, operators can also customize the light intensity and color to suit their requirements. There are pre-set six colors to choose from or you can chose the RGB input, as well as adjust the intensity of the light.
The TQC Sheen Pendulum Hardness Tester is a modular testing system, which allows you to carry out König and/or Persoz methods by attaching the appropriate pendulum. Pendulums can be ordered separately. Once the correct pendulum has been attached, you can switch between methods at the push of a button. For both, the amount of time it takes for the pendulum to decrease its swinging angle is used to determine the hardness of the surface material being tested.
The König pendulum consists of an open framework connected by a cross-bar with two balls attached to the underface. The lower end of the framework is formed into a pointer and a weight sliding on a vertical rod and attached to the cross-bar is used to counterpoise the pendulum. The damping time, in seconds, for the oscillation amplitude of the König pendulum to decrease from 6°to 3° is measured.
The Persoz pendulum is made from an open framework with an upper cross-bar that has two stainless steel balls inset to form a fulcrum. It also has a lower cross-bar that forms the pointer. The damping time, in seconds, for the oscillation amplitude of the Persoz pendulum to decrease from 12°to 4° is measured.
Meeting the testing standards and international regulations associated with your testing method is always an essential. That’s why this pendulum tester is compliant with ISO 1522, the global standard for carrying out a pendulum damping test on paints, varnishes and coatings. Additionally, the TQC Sheen Pendulum Hardness Tester is also suitable for testing to ASTM D4355 for testing hardness of organic coatings.
Capturing and transferring your test data is effortless with the TQC Sheen Pendulum Hardness Tester. Equipped with a conveniently located USB port, the instrument allows users to quickly export hardness test results directly to a computer – streamlining data handling and improving workflow efficiency.
