Description

Shape Index Test

The form Index Test evaluates the angularity and overall form of coarse aggregates. High-angularity aggregates, as well as flat and elongated forms, can have a detrimental impact on the workability and compaction of concrete and asphalt. This test, referred to as EN 933-4 or IS 2386 (Part 1), aids in the classification of aggregates based on their shape qualities, which impact particle interlock, void ratio, and mechanical performance. The form of aggregates is particularly significant in high-strength applications, road base layers, and areas where compaction quality is vital. A balanced shape index guarantees that aggregates contribute to a homogenous and dense mix, reducing voids while increasing structural performance.
