Description

Particle Size Distribution Test

The Particle Size Distribution (PSD) Test, often known as sieve analysis, is a basic examination used to measure the gradation of aggregate materials. This test, performed in accordance with ASTM C136 or BS 812-103.1, determines how aggregate particles are dispersed throughout different size ranges. Proper gradation is critical for producing optimal compaction, reducing voids, and ensuring strong interparticle interaction in concrete and asphalt mixtures. Well-graded aggregates increase structural stability, minimize the need for more cement or bitumen, and improve the long-term performance of roads, pavements, and structural components. This test is essential for aggregate quality control and ensuring conformity with design parameters.
