Unasyn is indicated for treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, including:
Upper respiratory tract infections: sinusitis, otitis media, tonsillitis
Lower respiratory infections: bacterial pneumonia, bronchitis
Urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis
Skin and soft-tissue infections
Gonococcal infections (STD)
As an oral follow-up to initial IM/IV therapy with ampicillin/sulbactam
375–750 /mg orally twice daily (every 12 /hours), depending on severity
For uncomplicated gonorrhea: single dose of 2.25 /g (six tablets) with probenecid 1 /g to prolong plasma levels
Swallow whole with water; do not chew, cut, or crush
May be taken with or without food
Usually 5–14 days, or until at least 48 hours after symptoms resolve
Complete the full course even if you feel better to avoid relapse or resistance
Adjust dosage in renal impairment based on kidney function; caution in hepatic disease
