Nippon Paint Hydro Metallic is an eco-friendly, water-based acrylic paint designed to provide a sophisticated, shimmering metallic finish for both interior and exterior surfaces. Unlike traditional solvent-based metallic paints, it is formulated with low VOC and low odor, making it ideal for residential areas and DIY projects. It ensures an even distribution of metallic pigments for a smooth, luxurious glow. While it is versatile enough for masonry, wood, and metal, it is specifically recommended for smaller decorative areas (less than 4m²) to ensure the best aesthetic results.
Paint Type: Water-based Acrylic
Finishing: Smooth Shimmering Metallic
Recommended Substrate: Masonry, Wood, and Metal
Volume Solids: ~30%
Theoretical Coverage: 7 – 8 m² per litre per coat (Actual coverage depends on substrate and application)
Hard Dry: 2 – 4 hours (at 28–32°C)
Recoating Interval: 2 – 4 hours
Dry Film Thickness: 35 – 50 µm per coat
Shelf Life: Up to 36 months in a tightly sealed container
Mixing: Stir the paint thoroughly before use to ensure metallic pigments are evenly dispersed.
Conventional Air Spray: Dilute with 10% – 15% water for optimal atomization.
Number of Coats: Minimum 2 coats are required for a uniform finish.
Cleaning: Clean all tools and equipment with clean water immediately after use.
Note: For the most uniform metallic effect on flat surfaces, a short-nap roller or spray is preferred.
For Masonry (Interior/Exterior):
Sealer/Primer (1 Coat): Nippon 5200 Interior Sealer or 5100 Wall Sealer.
Topcoat (2-3 Coats): Hydro Metallic.
For Wood & Metal:
Undercoat (1 Coat): Nippon Hydro Primer.
Topcoat (2-3 Coats): Hydro Metallic.
For Special Surfaces (Aluminium/Galvanized):
Primer (1 Coat): Etching Primer 120.
Undercoat (1 Coat): Hydro Primer.
Topcoat (2-3 Coats): Hydro Metallic.
General: Ensure the surface is dry, clean, and free from grease, oil, or wax.
Masonry: Remove all loose or powdery residue. For new walls, ensure moisture content is below 16% and alkalinity is below pH 9. Repair cracks with suitable fillers (e.g., EasySKIM 5000) and sand smooth.
Metal: Ferrous substrates should be sanded or wire-brushed to remove rust and mill scale. Ensure the surface is completely dry before priming.
Wood: Lightly sand the surface in the direction of the grain to improve adhesion, then clean off dust.
Previously Painted Surfaces: Scrape off flaking paint. Treat areas affected by fungus or algae with a fungicidal wash solution and allow to dry completely
