The African Fat-Tailed Gecko is often called the "calmer cousin" of the Leopard Gecko. Native to the humid savannas of West Africa, they share the charming movable eyelids and terrestrial nature of their cousins but have a stockier build and a shorter, thicker tail. They typically come in two wild phases: "Banded" (brown bands) and "Striped" (a bold white dorsal stripe). They are known for being incredibly docile, moving slowly and tolerating handling even better than most geckos.

Notes: While similar to Leopard Geckos, they have one crucial difference: Humidity. They require higher humidity (40-60%) and a damp hiding spot (humid hide) at all times to simulate their natural burrow environment. If kept too dry, they will have stuck shed issues on their toes. Like Leopard Geckos, they drop their tails if threatened, but a regenerating fat tail looks more like a bulbous turnip.

Key Care Difference: Do NOT keep them bone dry like Leopard Geckos; they need moisture retention in the substrate.
