Key Features and Types:
YAMAWA hand taps (HT series) are known for their versatility, able to be used for both blind and through holes. They feature straight grooves to store chips and a high blade tip strength, making them suitable for manual work or use with drilling machines.
Chamfer Lengths: Traditionally available in sets of three, YAMAWA now offers different chamfer lengths to suit modern machining practices where a single tap can be used. Common options are:
5P (Plug/Middle) tap: Recommended for general use and through holes.
1.5P (Bottoming) tap: Used for finishing blind holes after initial tapping with a 5P tap, ensuring threads go almost to the bottom.
Material Specific Taps: Beyond the general-purpose HT series, YAMAWA offers application-specific lines, such as:
SU-HT: Oxidized surface hand taps ideal for difficult-to-machine stainless steels, which have a tendency to work harden.
EH-HT: Suitable for tapping hard materials (35-45 HRC) like high carbon steel and alloy steel forgings.
MG-HT: Designed for magnesium alloy and aluminum die casting, featuring a specific flute shape to manage chip formation and fire risks.
Pipe Taps: YAMAWA also produces hand taps for pipe threads, including the PS (parallel pipe thread) and PT (tapered pipe thread) series, used where tightness of the joint is critical.
