Brinell hardness is a standard for indicating the hardness of materials. First proposed by Swedish J.A. Brinell, it is known as Brinell hardness.Brinell hardness (HB) is a test force of a certain size, in which a quenched steel ball or hard alloy ball of a certain diameter is pressed into the surface of the tested metal, held for a specified time, and then released to measure the diameter of the indentation on the tested surface.The Brinell hardness measurement method is applicable to cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, various annealed and quenched and tempered steels. It is not suitable for measuring samples or workpieces that are too hard, too small, too thin, and not suitable for large indentations on the surface .
