Requires a secure, fenced yard (not a dog park dog)
Prefers freedom over structured play — doesn’t fetch or follow commands eagerly
Needs mental stimulation to prevent boredom
Thick coat needs weekly brushing, daily during heavy shedding (spring)
Males typically shed once a year, females twice
Not prone to doggy odor
Requires occasional baths, nail trims, ear checks
Moderate appetite for their size
Feed high-quality, large-breed dog food
Prone to bloat (gastric torsion) — feed smaller meals, avoid heavy exercise after meals
