Spanjaard ADF Dry Moly Spray Specification Guide

TL;DR: Spanjaard ADF is a resin-bonded Molybdenum Disulphide (MoS2) dry moly spray formulation engineered for extreme-temperature friction reduction and anti-scuffing protection in high-humidity Malaysian processing environments. It delivers dry film lubrication across temperatures up to 450°C for heavy machinery components.

Machinery System Applications

Why the Engineering Specification Works

Spanjaard ADF utilizes sub-micron (0.4 µm) particles of Molybdenum Disulphide suspended in an air-drying resin carrier. When applied as a dry moly spray, the volatile carrier evaporates, leaving a strongly bonded solid film matrix across the metallic substrate.

In tropical climates with continuous ambient humidity, conventional wet oils and greases absorb atmospheric moisture and attract airborne particulate matter, accelerating fluid oxidation and slurry abrasive wear. The dry resin-bonded MoS2 structure provides an impermeable barrier against atmospheric moisture while resisting chemical attack from acid and alkali vapors. The hexagonal crystal lattice of MoS2 allows low-shear sliding between substrate surfaces under extreme load pressure, preventing metal-to-metal contact even after the resin binder undergoes thermal degradation at temperatures above 350°C.

Procurement & MRO Suitability Matrix

Industrial Target Profile Suitable Specification Match Unsuitable Specification Match
Plant Maintenance & Assembly Ideal for dry assembly of close-tolerance shafts, gears, and pinions requiring scuffing protection. Not suitable where continuous liquid hydrodynamic oil flushing is required.
High-Dust Environments Recommended for mining operations, cement mills, and dusty material handling plants. Not suitable for applications requiring food-grade (NSF H1) direct or incidental contact.
Machining & Tooling Shops Suitable for cross-ground cutting tool edge protection and tool life extension. Not recommended for application over oil-contaminated or uncleaned metal surfaces.
MRO Logistics (Malaysia) MRO stock available in 325ml aerosols and 5L bulk containers for local supply fulfillment. Unsuitable for long-term direct storage under direct solar exposure exceeding 50°C.

System Preparation & Fluid Introduction SOP

  1. Surface Degreasing: Thoroughly degrease the target substrate using a residue-free safety solvent (e.g., Spanjaard Electric Motor Cleaner). Ensure all residual oils, greases, and dirt are removed.

  2. Mechanical Pre-Treatment (Optional): Perform phosphating (chemical conversion coating) or grit blasting after degreasing to enhance mechanical bonding between the substrate and the dry film coating.

  3. Aerosol Application: Shake the 325ml aerosol can vigorously. Apply one or more thin, uniform coats onto the component surface, allowing 3 minutes of flash-off drying time between consecutive layers.

  4. Bulk Application: If utilizing 5L bulk tins, thoroughly stir the liquid product prior to application. Apply a thin coat via dipping, air spraying, or manual brush coating.

  5. Curing Cycle:

    • Aerosol Film: Allow 24 hours for full resin curing at ambient room temperature (20°C–25°C), or force-cure at 250°C for 1 hour.

    • Bulk Film: Thicker coats applied by dipping, brushing, or spray equipment require extended curing times prior to mechanical loading.

Engineering FAQ

Q: How does Spanjaard ADF function at temperatures above 350°C?
A: While the resin binder breakdown commences at 350°C, the residual Molybdenum Disulphide (MoS2) matrix continues to provide dry film boundary lubrication up to 450°C or higher under reduced air access environments.

Q: What surface preparation yields the highest film adhesion strength?
A: Thorough solvent degreasing followed by mechanical grit blasting or chemical phosphating maximizes the mechanical bonding strength of the air-drying resin to metal substrates.

Q: What curing options exist for rapid production turnarounds?
A: The aerosol dry film can be room-temperature cured over 24 hours or heat-cured at 250°C for 1 hour to accelerate structural resin cross-linking.
