50% Toll Discount Announced for Christmas Travel on Dec 23–24

Motorists in Malaysia will receive a 50% toll discount on December 23 and 24 in conjunction with the Christmas celebration on December 25, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

The minister stated that the initiative will involve an estimated RM20.65 million in government compensation to highway concessionaires nationwide.

The toll reduction applies exclusively to Class 1 private vehicles at all toll plazas across the country. However, the discount will not be available at border toll plazas, specifically the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) toll plaza on the North-South Expressway and the Tanjung Kupang toll plaza on the Malaysia–Singapore Second Link.

According to Nanta Linggi, the toll discount is intended to help reduce travel expenses for Malaysians who are heading back to their hometowns to celebrate Christmas, as well as those travelling with family members during the ongoing school holiday period. He added that the move reflects the Madani Government’s commitment to easing the cost of living for people from all walks of life, regardless of background.

The selected dates are also part of a broader traffic management strategy aimed at spreading traffic flow during peak festive travel periods, especially when motorists are returning to their hometowns or making their way back to urban areas. At the same time, it seeks to improve highway operations, including better utilisation of rest areas and lay-bys.

The Works Ministry encourages road users to plan their journeys in advance by using digital tools such as the LLM TuJu Highway Navigation App and PLUS’ MyPLUS-TTA, while adhering to recommended travel time advisories.

Motorists are also reminded to prioritise safety by following speed limits, traffic signs, and all highway regulations. Real-time traffic updates and incident reports can be accessed through the Malaysian Highway Authority’s (LLM) official social media platforms, while assistance is available via the LLM Traffic Management Centre hotline at 1-800-88-7752.

Nanta Linggi urged all highway users to drive responsibly, take rest breaks when feeling tired, and cooperate in ensuring safer, smoother travel during the festive season, while helping to reduce road accident rates nationwide.
