Is this the same as a Serial port?
No. A standard Serial (DB9) port has 9 pins in 2 rows. This HD15 connector has 15 pins in 3 rows. While the shell size is the same, the pin density is much higher.
Can I use this for high-definition 1080p?
Yes. While VGA is analog, high-quality HD15 connectors can support 1080p and higher resolutions, provided you use high-quality shielded coaxial cable.
Is soldering difficult for these?
Because the 15 pins are packed closely together, we recommend using a fine-tip soldering iron and thin solder wire. It requires a steady hand, but provides the best signal quality.
