Aroma:A cautious and refined start: soft hints of melon, summer citrus (orange peel), and floral notes.
Underlying waxy texture, rich florals, subtle vanilla and sultanas/dried-fruit presence. In the special release variant (higher ABV, wine-cask finish) there are deeper red-fruit/wine notes: raspberries, red plums, leather, wet tobacco leaf, wildflowers.
Palate:Smooth, gently coating mouthfeel. Layers of ripe melon and zesty orange-oil freshness fuse with sultanas and spiced biscuits.Dried fruit (raisins, sultanas), honey, vanilla, brown sugar; with cereal malt-grain characteristics and subtle wood-spice (cinnamon/nutmeg) in some notes. For the wine-finish version: barley-sugar sweetness with a pinch of salt, tart gooseberry/grape, spice (nutmeg/clove), some tannic or peppery heat.
Finish:Medium length: starts sweet (honey/vanilla/dried-fruit), moves to wood-spice and faint leather/earth or mild smoke in some editions.In special-finish version: longer, more drying (pepper heat, dark chocolate, wood spice, earthy touch) in the aftertaste.
