Chinese Government Scholarship Country-Specific Bilateral Program

Scholarship Program Introduction

The Chinese Government Scholarship offers two-way programs, full scholarships and partial scholarships:

1. Full scholarship

(1) Funding content: including tuition fees, accommodation fees, living expenses and comprehensive medical insurance within the normal academic system.

(2) Funding standards:

  • ① Free tuition fees within the normal academic system.
  • ② Free dormitory on campus; if you live off campus, the subsidy standard is:
  • Undergraduates, postgraduates, and general scholars: 700 yuan/month
  • Doctoral students and senior scholars: 1,000 yuan/month
  • ③ Living expenses:
  • Undergraduate students: 2,500 yuan/month
  • Master's degree students: 3,000 yuan/month
  • Doctoral students: 3,500 yuan/month
  • ④ Comprehensive medical insurance premium:
  • 800 yuan/year (>6 months)
  • 400 yuan/person (<6 months)

2. Partial Scholarship

Please consult the relevant dispatching department in the applicant's country (such as the Chinese Embassy, etc.).

Scholarship Application Requirements

1. Basic requirements: non-Chinese nationality, ordinary passport holder, physically and mentally healthy

2. Language requirements:

  • Chinese-taught undergraduates must score at least 180 points on HSK Level 4
  • Science, engineering, economics and management majors require HSK level 5 with a score of 180 or above
  • Liberal arts majors require HSK level 5 with a score of 210 or above
  • English-taught courses must meet one of the following requirements: native English speaker / provide English scores within the past 2 years (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90, Duolingo 120, etc.)

3. Educational background and age requirements:

  • Undergraduate: High school graduate, GPA ≥ 3.0, age ≤ 25
  • Master: Bachelor's degree, GPA ≥ 2.5, age ≤ 35
  • Doctoral degree: Master's degree, GPA ≥ 3.0, age ≤ 40 years old
  • General Scholars: High school degree or above, age ≤ 45
  • Senior Scholars: Master's degree or above or Associate Professor or above, age ≤ 50
Application Materials
  • Scanned copy of passport information page
  • Passport-sized ID photo
  • 1-minute video (self-introduction + plan for coming to China)
  • Highest academic qualification/degree certificate and transcript
  • HSK or English language scores
  • 2 letters of recommendation (graduate students and senior scholars)
  • Study Plan in China (Bachelor's degree ≥ 200 words, Master's degree ≥ 1000 words)
  • Criminal record certificate
  • Physical Examination Form for Foreigners (Study Period > 6 Months)
  • Certificate of honor, proof of financial guarantee, etc.
Application Process
  1. Log in to Contact E-Square to get website to submit your materials
  2. Received a pre-admission letter from Shanghai University
  3. Contact the sending department of your country and submit your application
  4. Log in to Contact E-Square to get website to register (select Type A)
  5. Waiting for review by China Scholarship Council and Shanghai University
  6. Obtain official admission materials
