Indications
- Primary Use: Treatment of corticosteroid-responsive inflammatory dermatoses complicated by secondary bacterial infections.
- Conditions Treated:
- Eczema (including infantile and atopic types)
- Contact dermatitis
- Seborrhoeic dermatitis
- Neurodermatitis
- Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque type)
- Intertrigo
- Lichen planus
- Discoid lupus erythematosus
- Prurigo nodularis
- Insect bite reactions
- Contact sensitivity reactions.
- Mechanism of Action: Combines the anti-inflammatory effects of betamethasone (a corticosteroid) with the antibacterial properties of neomycin to address both inflammation and infection in affected skin areas.
Instructions
Dosage and Application
- Frequency: Apply 2 to 3 times daily to the affected area.
- Method:
- Ensure the skin is clean, dry, and intact before application.
- Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected area and gently rub in.
- Do not use on broken, infected, or sensitive skin areas unless directed by a healthcare professional.
- Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes. If contact occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
- Do not use occlusive dressings or tight-fitting diapers over treated areas unless advised by a doctor.
- Duration: Use for the shortest duration necessary. If no improvement is observed within 2 weeks, consult a healthcare provider.
Warnings and Precautions
- Contraindications:
- Not suitable for use in children under 1 year of age.
- Avoid use on rosacea, acne, viral skin infections (e.g., herpes simplex, chickenpox), fungal infections (e.g., candidiasis), bacterial infections, or in patients with a history of sensitivity to any components of the cream.
- Systemic Effects: Prolonged use or application over large areas may lead to systemic absorption, potentially causing side effects such as adrenal suppression. This is particularly a concern in infants and children.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
- Pregnancy: Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
- Breastfeeding: Use with caution; avoid applying to the chest area to prevent accidental ingestion by the infant.
- Side Effects: May include local skin irritation, burning, itching, redness, and thinning of the skin. Prolonged use can increase the risk of systemic side effects.
