  • Features: High flow, moderate head. Often self-priming models are used.

• Submersible Pumps (Borehole/Deep Well Pumps):

  • Best for: Extracting water from deep wells or boreholes.

  • Features: Submerged in the water source; capable of very high lift (head).

• Turbine Pumps (Vertical/Submersible):

  • Best for: High-volume withdrawal from deep wells or large-diameter boreholes.

Key Selection Criteria:

1. Water Source & Lift: Depth to water (static level) and total vertical lift to the highest outlet.

2. Required Flow Rate (m³/hr or GPM): Based on irrigation system design (sprinkler output, area, watering schedule).

3. Total Dynamic Head (TDH): The sum of Vertical Lift + Friction Loss in pipes and fittings + Pressure Required at the sprinklers/drippers.

4. Power Supply: Availability of single-phase (240V) or three-phase (415V) power on-site. Three-phase is preferred for larger pumps (> ~4 kW).

5. Control & Automation: Timers, soil moisture sensors, or variable frequency drives (VFDs) for efficient operation.
