Trajenta is indicated for adjunctive treatment to diet and exercise in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycaemic control, in the following scenarios:
Monotherapy: When metformin is inappropriate due to intolerance or contraindication (e.g. renal impairment)
Combination therapy:
With metformin when metformin alone plus lifestyle isn’t sufficient.
With metformin and sulfonylurea if dual therapy is inadequate.
With insulin (with or without metformin) when current regimen doesn’t adequately control blood sugar
Dose: 5 /mg once daily (one tablet)
Method:
Can be taken with or without food, at any time of the day
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered. Do not take a double dose on the same day
Special Dose Considerations:
No dose adjustment needed for renal or hepatic impairment or in elderly (based on current clinical data)
When combined with sulfonylurea or insulin, a reduced dose of those may be considered to minimize the risk of hypoglycaemia
Not recommended in children < 18 years (no proven efficacy/evidence)
