SEPANG (Feb 2): Independent railway assessors have validated that the KL International Airport (KLIA) aerotrain system is functioning as designed, with earlier service disruptions being typical of the early operational stage of complex rail networks.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) confirmed in a statement that the disruptions observed since commissioning do not pose safety risks, thanks to robust engineering controls and continuous monitoring in place.
MAHB highlighted that since November 15, 2025, the Comprehensive Action Plan (CAP) has been executed to strengthen aerotrain operations. The system achieved 100% Operational Service Availability in December 2025, up from 98.67% in July 2025, demonstrating high stability during inspection, testing, and validation exercises.
The assessment focused on two critical systems influencing train reliability and service performance:
Power Supply System – The design and protective measures were generally effective, though improvements were recommended in areas such as installation quality, power rail monitoring, and operational role clarity to enhance long-term reliability.
Rolling Stock – Special attention was given to the current collector device, which interacts with the power rail and affects traction continuity and service stability.
The CAP involved coordinated workstreams across inspection, rectification, system testing, validation, and trial operations. Engineering hours were initially set from 9pm to 7am but adjusted to 11pm to 7am during festive and school holiday periods to minimise disruptions for passengers.
MAHB confirmed that remaining CAP measures will continue to be implemented systematically, supported by independent oversight to ensure consistent aerotrain reliability at KLIA. The two independent assessors, Alstom and IJMC-Pestech, who reviewed the aerotrain’s design, installation, operations, and maintenance, were expected to submit consolidated reports by mid-January 2026.
Reliable airport infrastructure directly impacts industrial land in Selangor, factories in Puchong, and industrial properties in the Subang area, by improving logistics connectivity and supporting timely transport of goods. Likewise, office space in Bukit Jalil and commercial property in KL benefit from enhanced airport accessibility, as efficient transport links attract businesses and strengthen tenant demand for prime commercial locations.
